Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Q. What is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP)?
A. An AEP is a 4 year University trained Allied Health Professional specialising in exercise programming and prescription for both complex medical conditions and apparently healthy population.

Q. What is the difference between an AEP and a Personal Trainer (PT)?
A. AEP's have 4 years of University training whereas a PT can complete an online course in 6-8 weeks. AEP's are qualified to deal with both complex medical conditions as well as apparently healthy clients, whereas PT's deal with apparently healthy populations. Only an AEP has a provider number which means clients can receive Health fund rebates from their private health fund and 100% Bulk-Billed Medicare referrals from a General Practitioner (GP).

Q. What is the difference between an AEP and a Physiotherapist?
A. There are some similarities between the two as some practices have both AEP's and Physio's working alongside each other and some clients will see both a physio and AEP at the same time.

The main difference is that Physio's diagnose and normally deal with the acute phase for clients (i.e the period immediately following injury or surgery) whereas AEP's specialise in exercsie programming and prescription as the client transitions into a gym/home-based program. Matt Rayner Exercise Physiology has good relationships with quality physio's on the Sunshine Coast.

    Subsequent consultation $90 (45min)
    Subsequent consultation 5-pack $400 ($80/45min session)

Q. Is there any cost to me if I have a medicare referral from a Doctor?
There is a small gap payment only- you get $58 back in your pocket ($22 gap payment)

Q. What should I expect as my Initial Assessment?
A.  The first session involves getting to know your background medical and training history. A few short assessments will then be performed that are specific to your history to identify areas for improvement. This allows for the development of an exercise program tailored to your needs to help you achieve your goals and improve your quality of life.
We will then discuss your ongoing treatment plan.
